Nuggets’ Christian Braun becoming hard to “keep off the floor” in Denver’s second unit

DETROIT — Christian Braun attacked his minutes Thursday night like a dog salivating over red meat.Throughout an inconsistent campaign, Braun has stayed even-keeled, unperturbed when the minutes come and go. But more often than not, when Nuggets coach Michael Malone has opted for the poised rookie, he’s delivered.Such was the case against the Pistons, when the Nuggets desperately needed to snap a four-game losing streak, and Braun was a fixture of the lineup that swung the game.Throughout the first five-plus minutes of the fourth quarter, the Nuggets outscored Detroit 11-5, which created the rare advantage while Nikola Jokic rested. Denver’s much-maligned bench unit took shape, with Braun, Bruce Brown, Jeff Green, Thomas Bryant and Jamal Murray bridging the gap between starters and reserves.Asked what he wanted the identity of that unit to be, Malone distilled the priorities succinctly.“I want that identity to be defend, rebound, run, be nasty, be physical, and get some easy baskets ...Sharon Stone: ‘I just lost half my money to this banking thing’

Sharon Stone rallied attendees at a star-studded Beverly Hills fundraiser Thursday night to give generously to support the Women’s Cancer Research Fund by revealing her latest hardship, which appears to be related to losing a great deal of money following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.“I know that thing that you have to get on and figure out how to text the money is difficult,” a tearful Stone said to the crowd in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel ballroom. “I’m a technical idiot, but I can write an (expletive) check. And right now, that’s courage, too, because I know what’s happening. I just lost half my money to this banking thing, and that doesn’t mean that I’m not here.”Stone, who was accepting the Courage Award from the organization that supports cancer research, didn’t elaborate on the specific “banking thing” that caused her losses, The Hollywood Reporter said.BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 16: Honoree Sharon Stone speaks onstage during A...Executive director of New Museum Los Gatos steps down

After more than two years as executive director of New Museum Los Gatos, Ami Davis announced she is stepping down at the end of March to work in Santa Cruz.“As you can imagine, it was a difficult decision to leave the incredible staff and board at NUMU,” Davis said in a statement. “However, after putting NUMU on a successful path forward, it’s time for new leadership to take the helm and continue the museum’s growth.”Davis, who accepted a position with Arts Council Santa Cruz County, oversaw NUMU through the pandemic, boosted community engagement and membership retention and established new community partnerships. Last July, the museum received $1 million from Alyce and Mike Parsons — the largest donation NUMU has received to date—to establish an endowment fund.“We are grateful for the vision and leadership that Ami has brought to NUMU over the past two years, and look forward to our continued success under new leadership,” said Jenn Schwartz, president of the museum’s board of dire...Santa Clara basketball feeling the momentum thanks to Jalen Williams’ NBA success and Brandin Podziemski’s outstanding year

SANTA CLARA — Santa Clara’s Keshawn Justice hadn’t yet started his shooting motion when Brandin Podziemski was already identifying his path from behind the arc to get into rebounding position. As Justice began to shoot, Podziemski’s momentum started taking him towards the glass, and as the ball took flight, Podziemski was already standing to the left of the basket. The ball hit the rim and bounced to the left, right into his hands. When trying to explain how Podziemski, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, led the West Coast Conference with 8.8 rebounds per game this season, the easiest answer is pure instinct.Santa Clara’s 23-win season, their first since 1969, came to an end on Wednesday night after a 58-56 loss to Sam Houston in the first round of the NIT Tournament, but the Broncos are still riding high with the possibility that they could have two different players selected in back-to-back NBA Drafts for the first time since it was reduced to two rounds in 1989.After Jalen Williams wa...NCAA Tournament preview: Saint Mary’s vs. VCU should be a defensive battle

Saint Mary’s will tip off against Virginia Commonwealth in Albany, N.Y. in the NCAA Tournament at 11 a.m. PT on Friday afternoon. Don’t expect it to look like the first game between these two sides.Back in 2017, the first and only matchup between these two, the Gaels topped the Rams, 85-77, in the NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Saint Mary’s set a program record for most points in a tournament game. This time they come in as two of the top-25 defenses in the country, with the No. 12 seeded Rams yielding just 64 points per game (24th) and the No. 5 seeded Gaels allowing just 59 points per game (fifth).“I know what they are, I know what that program is,” Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett said of VCU. “They’re in a good league. They have a really strong tradition of basketball.”The red-hot Rams (27-7) are making their 19th appearance in the Big Dance. They enter the tournament on a nine-game winning streak after capturing the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship...Sharks rookie Eklund is showing he belongs in the NHL. But here’s why his stay might end soon

SAN JOSE – It took San Jose Sharks winger William Eklund a little time to get used to the North American professional game after he started the season in the AHL.Now that he’s with the big club, it looks like he deserves to stay, as he scored his second goal in as many games Thursday in the Sharks’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken at SAP Center.Besides his goal, Eklund also had 20:40 of ice time and was credited with three shots on net, three blocked shots, and two hits.“Honestly, ever since I saw him for the first time, I thought, ‘this kid is special,’” Sharks goalie James Reimer said of Eklund. “Just the way he plays, the way he sees the ice, the way he can move. He’s just a little water bug out there.”Salary cap management, though, could soon end Eklund’s brief run in the NHL.Per the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if Eklund, 20, is returned to the AHL before he plays a 10th NHL game this season, his three-year entry-level contract will not begin...Free Spins No Deposit Casino Bonuses Online (Updated List): Claim Hundreds of Free Spins with No Deposit Needed

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The windows that broke during the storm on Tuesday at 555 California Street are boarded up. The city's department of building inspectors has given the management a notice of violation saying the windows must be replaced immediately. However, the weather could play a role in when that happens. San Francisco inspectors are asking the management of 555 California to replace the windows as soon as possible in order to meet compliance. Oakland PD warns residents as burglaries involve suspects disguised as Amazon workers But as you can imagine, it gets very windy on the 43rd floor where those two windows are. Building managers could be waiting until the winds calm down to replace them.Glass shards fall down to the San Fransico streets below after one window shattered and another cracked on the 43rd floor during the high wind advisory Tuesday. This is the notice of violation since sent to the management of 555 California Street from the San Francisco Department of B...Turkey’s president agrees to approve Finland’s NATO membership application

From No. 13 seed Furman beating fourth-seeded Virginia to No. 15 Princeton defeating second-seeded Arizona, most NCAA Tournament brackets were busted Thursday before the sun went down. The NCAA March Madness Twitter account posted after Thursday’s late games concluded that only 787 brackets of unspecified millions remained perfect.Numbers were similar elsewhere. In ESPN’s Tournament Challenge bracket game, only 658 perfect brackets remained by the end of the first day. More than 20 million had gotten at least one of the 16 games wrong.Furman received a decent amount of support. The Paladins were picked to win their opener in 18.2% of ESPN’s brackets. Only 6.6% picked Princeton to beat Arizona, and the Wildcats going down did tremendous damage to many brackets. They were picked in 4.9% of brackets to cut down the nets at the national championship game.Arizona was a popular pick at CBS Sports, too, appearing on 96.9% of brackets win its opener, 84.9% to make the Sweet ...Latest news
