KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A missile strike on a mail depot in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv killed six people, Ukrainian officials said Sunday.A further 16 people were injured in the blast late Saturday, which is believed to have been caused by a Russian S-300 rocket, Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov said on social media. All of the victims were employees of private Ukrainian postal and courier service Nova Poshta. In a statement, the company said that the air raid siren had sounded just moments before the attack, leaving those inside the depot with no time to reach shelter. It announced that Sunday would be a day of mourning for the firm.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strike as an attack on an “ordinary civilian object.”“We need to respond to Russian terror every day with results on the front line. Palestinian death toll in West Bank surges as Israel pursues militants following Hamas rampage

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 09:30:26 GMT

JERUSALEM (AP) — Deadly violence has been surging in the West Bank as the Israeli military pursues Palestinian militants in the aftermath of the Hamas attack from Gaza, with at least 90 Palestinians killed in the Israeli-occupied territory in the past two weeks, mainly in clashes with Israeli troops. The violence threatens to open another front in the 2-week-old war, and puts pressure on the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority, which administers parts of the West Bank and is deeply unpopular among Palestinians, in large part because it cooperates with Israel on security matters. The tally includes five Palestinians killed in separate incidents on Sunday, including two who died in an airstrike on a mosque in the volatile Jenin refugee camp that Israel said was being used by militants. Israel carried out an airstrike during a battle in another West Bank refugee camp last week, in which 13 Palestinians, including five minors, and a member of Israel’s paramilitary Bord...

Torivio Fodder: The true crime story of the Osage Nation would take a century to tell

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 09:30:26 GMT

Director Martin Scorsese’s new film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” tells the true story of a string of murders on the Osage Nation’s land in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Based on David Grann’s meticulously researched 2017 book, the movie delves into racial and family dynamics that rocked Oklahoma to the core when oil was discovered on Osage lands.White settlers targeted members of the Osage Nation to steal their land and the riches beneath it. At least 60 Osage people were murdered or disappeared between 1921 and 1925. From a historical perspective, this crime, made possible by federal policies from the 1880s, was just the tip of the iceberg. From the early 1800s through the 1930s, official U.S. policy displaced thousands of Native Americans from their ancestral homes through the policy known as Indian removal. And throughout the 20th century, the federal government collected billions of dollars from sales or leases of natural resources such as timber, oil and...

“I know the heart is an involuntary organ,” a club player said to me. “It works without conscious direction from the brain. I didn’t know the tongue was that way until I acquired my current partner. Except he’s now my former partner.”“Partners do tend to speak without thinking,” I sighed. My friend was today’s North.“My first four bids had shown nothing,” he said, “so when my partner cue-bid five diamonds, I thought my king was enough to bid slam. West led the ten of diamonds, and partner won with the jack, accepting the free finesse. He drew trumps, took the A-K of clubs and the ace of diamonds, and led a low heart.“East won with the eight and led a club. South ruffed and led the ace and low heart. He went down two.“My partner savaged me. He strained his voice, and not because he was talking through a colander. He said my slam bid was nutty. I mentioned that, as he played the hand, five spades would ...

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Australian Minjee Lee weathered a late rally by Alison Lee to eventually defeat the American on the first playoff hole and win the LPGA South Korea tournament on Sunday. Both players finished at 16-under 272 on the Seowon Valley Country Club course outside Seoul forcing a playoff, where the Australian made a birdie at the par-4 18th after her namesake saw her birdie attempt narrowly miss.It was 27-year-old Minjee Lee’s 10th tour title and second win in her last three starts after claiming the Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati in July. Sunday’s win makes her the third player from Australia to reach double digits in Tour victories, joining Jan Stephenson (16) and Karrie Webb (41).America’s Lee is still searching for her first tour victory, but can count herself desperately unlucky after mounting a strong comeback to force what had appeared to be an unlikely playoff after making bogey at the 16th to trail Minjee Lee by two shots.But...
